Manual Therapy We Offer

Manual therapy, manipulative therapy, or manual & manipulative therapy encompasses the treatment of health ailments of various etiologies through 'hands-on', physical intervention. Physical treatments includes massage, soft tissue mobilization, various connective tissue techniques, myofascial release, craniosacral techniques, mobilization of joints, joint manipulation, mobilization of neural tissue & visceral mobilization.

Chiropractic Care: Chiropractic is a health care discipline and profession that emphasizes diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine. Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health.  Chiropractic care is used most often to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches. We  offer Chiropractic Care by The
Doctors of Chiropractic – often referred to as chiropractors or chiropractic physicians – practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling. The most common therapeutic procedure performed by doctors of chiropractic is known as “spinal manipulation,” also called “chiropractic adjustment.”   The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile – or restricted in their movement – as a result of a tissue injury.  Manipulation, or adjustment of the affected joint and tissues, restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing tissues to heal.

Swedish:
Still the
most popular massage today, swedish massage techniques leave the body relaxed and rested. Using lighter, rhythmic strokes, Swedish massages are enjoyed by people of all ages and lifestyles. Benefits: Improved circulation, Relief of muscle tension, Relief of carpal tunnel syndrome, Enhancements to and maintenance of chiropractic adjustments, General feelings of relaxation and well being. Swedish massage includes long, relaxing strokes, kneading, friction, tapping, and shaking motions. It is effective for most ailments, because massaging the skin, the body's largest organ, sets up a chain reaction that produces a positive effect on all layers and systems of the body. It affects the nerves, muscles, glands, and circulation, while promoting health and well-being. Swedish massage helps release the body of unwanted strain and stress. Your body will feel rested and your mind at ease for a total pampering experience.

Shiatsu: refers to the use of fingers and palm of one's hand to apply pressure to particular sections on the surface of the body for the purpose of correcting the imbalances of the body, and for maintaining and promoting health. It is also a method contributing to the healing of specific illnesses."*Shiatsu is regulated as a licensed medical therapy in Japan by the Ministry of Health and Welfare

Pre-Natal Massage:
There is some evidence that massage may help pregnant women who suffer from low back pain, chronic headaches, and swelling ~ massage may decrease stress and promote relaxation, helping you cope with discomfort even if it doesn't prevent it.

Your Therapy Session At The State College Lisa Robin Spa

At the State College Lisa Robin Spa we believe everyone should be able to take advantage of the wonderful therapeutic and stress relieving benefits of manual therapy.  We are committed to ensuring that every time you visit us you enjoy a caring and healing experience so we thought it would be helpful for you to know what to expect on your first visit.
Meet and Greet: Once you arrive at our front desk will greet you and you will have a brief  Patient Form & Patient Intake interview. The Intake interview is where you provide any medical history, past/present injuries and other physical conditions we should be made aware of.  Our staff will greet you and review the Patient Intake Form with you. They will inquire about the reason(s) you are coming for a massage, your current physical condition and any specific areas in which you are experiencing pain or would like addressed during your therapy.
TheTreatment Room: We will then take you to a peaceful, spa-like treatment room where a comfortable massage table dressed with crisp clean sheets awaits.  A small shelf for your personal belongings and a chair are also provided for your use. Our staff will leave the room and wait outside while you disrobe to your level of comfort. Some patients prefer to completely disrobe, while some will remain partially clothed. Once disrobed, you will lie on the massage table, under the top sheet. We will give you a few minutes for this process and will knock on the door to ask if you are ready before entering your room. You will always be draped with the top sheet during your therapy session and an additional blanket is available at your request. We will only uncover the part of the body they are working on, ensuring that your modesty is respected at all times. You can expect a tranquil and comfortable environment during your massage. The massage table is padded and a heating blanket is placed beneath the sheet, which you can have adjusted to your preference. There will be relaxing music playing, unless you request otherwise, and the room should be quiet, with no outside distractions.
To Paradise and Back: Once your therapy session is completed, will wait outside the room for you, and then take you back to the front area. Our manual therapy sessions are 30 minutes, one hour in length or 90 minutes. This time includes a 5 minute pre-interview, 50 minutes of hands-on then for an hour massage, & 20 minutes for 30 minute massage  and 5 minutes at the end for you to re-dress.
